Is there a trick to getting the rubber buttstock off a Yugo SKS? I figure I could use a rod inside the cleaning kit hole to pry it off but I'm not sure if I could do any damage. Are these pure rubber or is there some type of frame?

Also, once off is there a trick to getting them back on?

I took mine completely apart a while ago to refinish the stock and if I remember correctly there is a plate in it with around 1/8" rubber lip all the way around contacting the stock and the lip holds it on pretty well. I never checked for fit before I stuck the stock in the dishwasher to bleed out the cosmoline and it took a some work to get it to fit back on but it did go back on. Not sure if it was because of the original tight fit or if the wood swelled or a combination of both.
