No matter how much I like my. G19, I just cant warm up to it like I can my 1911's. I am lucky to have 4 that run without any issues Who else just can not get over there 1911's? Its like CRACK I tell you!!! I keep coming back to them I thought this may be deserving since I am reading a lot of threads giving the G19 so much cudos. And its deserved as well!!

Talk up your 1911 love people!!(as I type this I am wearning my G26, I can wear that more comfortable than my G19)

Nothing like a 1911. Prepare to be assimilated when you purchase your first good one.

My first pistol was a 1911, a DCM Remington UMC from 1918 though a WWII rebuild via Anniston Arsenal. I've had the pistol at least fify years.

At last count, 22 1911s, from that first one (still have it) to the pistol I'm building via a Larry Vickers class. That doesn't count conversion kits, the first year Ballester-Rigaud, or the Ballester-Molinas, or the Star Model P...*

Also have a G21, G36, and G37. Good pistols, just not M1911s.

Why so many? For one, I've been accumulating them over a fifty year period. For another, I'm writing a series of books on the M1911; you can't write a book without the hands-on**. Also, they're like Lay's potato chips (remember Bert Lahr, "You can't have just one!"?).

Regards,

Walt
* I'm working on acquiring a Garthwaite custom built on a Briley frame; shot it at a training class when I showed up with the "wrong" pistol box, and Jim was kind enough to lend me a new pistol. It had had only one magazine through it. I commenced to put 350 rounds through it that day without a bobble. Gotta have that gun!
** That's why I recently got a Colt Pocket Model (short-frame version of the M1902 Military Model, .38 ACP [pre-Super]). I was surprised to find that it matches the dimensions of the "CCO"-type M1911, to wit, an Officers ACP frame and Commander slide. Wouldn't have noticed that unless I had one.

Yeah, blgoode, why the G26 carry? You should be wearing at least a LW Commander!

I was going out in the shop to sweat all over it. I actually put on my fullsize colt 1991 :). See... I always go back to the 1911! I do have a LTW XSE I adore.

I like them too, but don't own one. (probably will some day)

What I don't understand is why anyone would have more than 2?

1) Small one for carry
2) Race gun for competing

More than that and it starts to become more like collecting than shooting.

People from my generation and younger typically have nothing against plastic. If one is comfortable with plastic and doesn't mind the trigger, you have to admit Gs are good.

Also, you have to give credit that G was the first innovation in handguns in many decades.

That was an off the cuff remark. This is not a bash glock thread. I love my plastic but simple feel the 1911 platform fits me best in my carry conceal world.

I am only 35 so my generation started the plastic generation!! :)

I wanted fun 1911 talk. That's all friend.

Nice! I like the tigger. I also got adicted to davidson grips :) I have 7 pair I think. You can do a lot to indavidualise the 1911 platform.

What I don't understand is why anyone would have more than 2?

Well...now that you mention it...

1 -- on the person
3 -- one for each floor of the house
2 -- one in each car
1 -- one for Bullseye
1 -- one for IDPA
1 -- one for IPSC
__

9 -- nine, at the minimum. As for collecting, a good friend once said that your collection isn't complete until you have one of each serial number.

Of the 22, only two are duplicates ;) .

Walt

I have carried a 1911a1 since 3 Dec.1969. Tried many others never found any that compare for me. At last count I still need 1 more and still be 1 short after my next one.

Glocks are reliable tools. 1911's are functional works of art. :)

I don't know why people (even those who own 1911's) feel a reliable 1911 is unusual.

I have 8. There is not a handgun I own any more reliable.

after getting my Wilson CQB and getting some "1911 fever", my wish list includes, in no particular order:

- A Les Baer TRS
- A Colt Lightweight Commander
- An Ed Brown of some sort
- A Wilson CQB Compact
- A Colt 1911 WWI reissue
- And maybe a Dan Brown Bobtail...

so..I could understand how someone can get a weakness for 1911's, cuz' they's gots soooulll baby

I don't like 1911s from a personal standpoint, but I think they are very good looking pistols with great history. If I could afford to build one up the way I wanted I would, but for that amount of money...well you know, priorities.

Just got into this 1911 thingy...and getting more into it. One question, I was wondering if a Commander will fit into a 4" 1911 Holster, if the holster does not have a thumb snap. Does that extra 1/4 inch make a difference?

In over your head?!

I enjoy a 1911 from time to time, but just can't stomach a steady diet of them... diversity, in most things, adds joy! :D

At least you were smart enough to purchase a G19. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I'm in the process of getting my first 1911. Have my eye on the S&W 1911 tactical rail in stainless. All my other guns have purpose, car, truck, bedroom, etc... This one will be the start of my 1911 collection but by no means the end. I'm a bit concerned about the addiction..I can feel it

Loved 'em ever since I got my first one. Unfortunately they won't let us carry one on duty, so I am forced into the Polymer-World. I have nothing against them and can shoot just fine with them now, but I still love the feel of a 1911. Only one in my safe now is a Custom Kimber, but..... would love to get another compact one day. Had to sell mine several years back.

Counted mine awhile back but forgot exactly how many. Got a little ways to catch up with wjkuleck but then my first was in 1993. I'm 48, and smoke cigarettes. Dang I better get to buying some more.

Besides the 45's I like the oddballs. Here is a picture of one of mine you never see much. It's a Plain Jane from Brazil but it feeds like poop through a goose and is dead nuts accurate. Once in awhile I get to thinking about customizing it but then I just say nah. Maybe a set of night sights with no invasive surgery but that's about it.
