I just bought a .22LR Ruger 10/22 and I was going to put a scope on it. I've been plinkiong with it and It's super accurate with the open sights. My poll is do you put scopes on your .22's or leave them stock - no scope?

Feel free to inlcude any guns as this is a general question about guns that you use to "plink" with.

sorry... I voted "who cares" just to see that go to 100%...:D

my rifles all had scopes on, untill I reciently installed a set of Tech Sights on my best 10-22... previously, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a set of iron sights, so even my handguns had red dot sights on them... however, 3 rabbits have fallen prey to my 10-22 this spring, since installing the Tech Sights... so I guess I'm all for a good quality set of iron sights, but with what comes stock on most rifles, I would prefer a scope...

I have three 10/22s and a CZ453. I have a 4x on my stock 10/22, a 4-16 on my target/sporter, an 8-24 on my race rifle, and a 24x on my CZ. For casual plinking I recommend either open sights or a 4x scope. And of course Tech-Sights open sights for Appleseed events. But for fine target work my old eyes need a serious scope.

Most of my .22LR rifles have scopes, though I have two with receiver sights and one with open sights.

The preferred scope for .22LR sporters fpr me and several others I shoot with has been the 4.5-14X Simmons ATV. That scope is not presently made and I haven't bought any of the replacements, but I like the power range for sporter use, both for plinking and hunting in relatively open areas.

At 63 I have gone from iron sights to scopes and back to iron sights after lens replacement.I would enjoy my years of iron sight shooting as long as you can do the job you wish with them.I believe each has it's place and use.I believe neither is superior to the other in all uses.I believe that either is superior to the other in some uses.

From iron sights of many variations and scopes to a Swarovski 3x12x56,each had it's place in my shooting and hunting.

My Ruger 10-22 target and Marlin 880 Squirrel with match ammo benefited with the scopes in target shooting with high priced match ammo with my "Bionic" eyes. These and the other 9 .22 rim fires shot much the same with general hunting and plinking ammo when scoped. Each had it's favorites. Some were Tack drivers and some were plinkers.I had some old plinkers with worn and damaged barrels that I enjoyed shooting. They were shot for generations with shells from gritty pockets and seldom cleaned, but were fun to shoot.

I removed the scopes from most of my rifles when I got my sight back.It was precious to me and I enjoyed it.Now that my right eye comes and goes for medical reasons,I am glad I did.I miss my guns as most went to pay for illness and hard times.Enjoy you sight while you can in every way you can."IF" you live long enough, you will lose it or part of it due to aging alone.alfred

I have a scope on my Winchester 69A for critters and my Stevens is open sighted for practice, plinking and teaching.

I've got one with a cheap 4x scope that works great and one with factory iron sights. I like both equal, it's just personal preference.
