I recently sold all my rifles and downsized to just my Bushmaster XM15 E2S M4 Modular Carbine. By far the best decision I have made. My AK was a tack driver, but the M4 feels like a much better made rifle.

I am looking at EOTech's and not sure which one would be the best for what I have. 16" barrell, maximum distance will be roughly 100 meters. Average distance will be short range 50-75 meters.

I am looking for advice in regards to what you have and use and how well it functions. Also looking for input on getting a short range ACOG instead (2-3x)

Thanks for the Look and Advice!

They're all pretty much the same; 1 MOA dot inside a 65 MOA circle. The difference between the models are based on the type of battery (either CR1234 or AA alkaline), whether it accepts nightvision, water-proof capabilities, and were the illumination controls are.

Model 553 incorporates the patented ARMS® dual quick-release throw levers for instant on/off capabilities. Zero is repeatable to 1 MOA after re-mounting. Sight body sets 7mm (.275") higher to provide operator with a consistent cheek weld with all other standardized optics. Model 555 offers the same feature set as the 553 with the added convenience of using two common 1.5 volt AA batteries as a power source. Gives 1,000 hours continuous operation with lithium batteries at nominal setting 12; 600 continuous hours with alkaline. Also compatible with AA rechargeables. Model 551, 552, 552.XR308, 553, and 555 are night vision compatible with a night vision brightness range of 1,000:1 with NV switch engaged. Model 552.XR308 has a ballistic drop compensated reticle for .308 caliber with hash marks calibrated for 600, 900, and 1200 meters. Models 511 and 512 have no provisions for night vision equipment. 511 and 551 use two, Type N batteries; 512, 552, and 555 use two, AA batteries; 553 uses two, CR123A (3v) batteries. Submersible to 33 ft. depth. Model 516 occupies only 3¼" of rail space, yet provides up to 1,100 hours of continuous operation on two (2) 3 volt CR123A lithium batteries, included. Model 557 is fully compatible with Gen I-IV night vision systems, with a night vision brightness range of 1000:1 with NV switch engaged. Powered by two (2) common 1.5 volt AA alkaline (included) or lithium batteries; 1,000 hour continuous battery life with lithium or 600 hours with alkaline.

For the shorter ranges you have planned I'd go with the AA battery 512. Bullet drop compensation isn't necessary for 100yd and with the 1 MOA dot you should be good to about 300yds with a 100yd zero anyway.

Unless you plan on using night vision goggles, you don't need the NV feature which adds $$.

I've own a couple of Eo-techs and have used them both on pistols and my Colt 6920 (semi auto M4), and really like them. The AA batteries provide good life. Auto shut off is a godsend. The large ring and small dot work great for rapid acquisition and yet still provide accurate fire.

I appreciate your input. Will be my first EOTech as well. With my AK I never used any thing other than the iron sights and I could keep a 2" pattern at 100yds. I don't mind the M4 sights... Just like the idea of an EOTech on this type of carbine.

I think I am going to go with AA batt EOTech w/out NV and certainly going to eventually get the 3x optics for it. Looks like a fool proof set up.
