View Full Version : Had to buy a cheap blaster...

Well, I needed to get myself an inexpensive plinking rifle to get my "semi-auto blasting" fix once in a while. So, when my local store had Ruger 10/22's on sale for $169, I had to pick one up! I'd almost forgotten how much fun those could be.

Anyway, I got the regular old wood/blue with the barrel band and put on a cheap BSA 3-9x40 (illuminated), a sling, and $10 muzzle brake (couldn't resist, it just looks cool!) Oh, yeah, 30 rounders were also on sale for $10, so I got one of those too! ...photobucket is broke, sorry can't post a pic.

While we're talkin' 10/22...anybody got a picture of one of these with the ventilated handguard installed?

Not I, but a good choice. Enjoy!

Very spiffy 10/22's ya got there, I like the brown laminate! I'm bettin' they're a bit more accurate (and exspensive ;)) then mine. Here's a pic of mine...

I used to have one before they were banned in Australia. In the state I was then in sound moderators were legal.

All you could hear was the 'click-clack' of the action as Winchester sub-sonic ammo fired off (until the action got dirty and the action would get a 'smoke stack' jam).

I miss the little rifle. Even although the lever action version is available in Australia it lacks the charm of the little semi auto.

That's a beautiful rifle so don't sell yours short I love stock wood stocked 10/22s! I'm keeping one of mine as stock looking as possible. My plan is a send the barrel off to be rechambered and recrowned, and get the trigger done. It will be completely stock looking and yet shoot with the best - a sleeper. :D

For future reference Clark Custom does a sweet 2.5-2.8lb creep free trigger job for $65. That will do more for the sweet rifle than all the fancy doodads. If you have the barrel rechambered (~$85) it will shoot just well as most $200 match barrels. You'll give up hyper velocity ammo but hyper shouldn't be used in a 10/22 anyway and standard velocity ammo is more accurate.

I know there are a lot of people who hate the 10/22. I ain't one of them. I've got three now, and have to keep pinching myself to stop from buying another. Why I would even want another one is beyond me, other than I think they're neat little rifles that don't cost a lot. Here's mine, all three stock out of the box, except for slings and scope, and most likely to stay that way. They're more than good enough for me the way they are.

I keep wanting to get a regular carbine now. :D

Lawyer...pehaps you thought that's a suppressor. It's not, just a plain ol' muzzle brake. It actually seems to make the gun slightly louder, but the recoil (what little there is in a .22) is almost non-existant. I didn't think I'd have to re-zero, but adding the brake sent my point of impact way to the left and a little down...go figure!

Cajun...nice. Those DLX stocks sure are good-looking.
