I had the honor to meet Ssgt Hathcock while I served with the 3rd mardiv in the I corps region of Viet nam.We were having a sniper problem around our base camps and fire bases and since we were an MEF we didn't have any sniper teams assigned to us.1st Marines in II corps had 4 and 1 was assigned to us TAD.I met him in the chow hall and he was more than gracious to a fresh out of ITR Lcpl.In a matter of 3 or 4 weeks we were able to walk upright again with out fear of taking a round.He was transfered back to his unit and in to the History of the USMC in Viet nam.Ssgt Hathcock was 1 of the reasons that I spent 26 years in my belove Corps ELMO

I never met the man, but stories of his shooting prowess were to us told many times in sniper school and PMI school when I was in the Corps.
