How often should one do a complete breakdown for cleaning if shooting about 400 rounds per month? Would you advise doing it yourself or professionally? Is it necessary at all. Just want to preserve "Smokey" and keep him in great condition.

If it's a CCW I detail strip and clean it after I shoot it. Overkill? Maybe. If you are comfortable doing a detail strip yourself, go for it. There are plenty of good videos and books out there to walk you through it, and it's not really that hard. If you're not comfortable, in any way, see the Glock Armorer. For 400 rounds a month, probably safe to clean after shooting and give it (or get it) detail stripped and cleaned once a month.

I always clean it when I return from the range. Thanks.

I detail strip the slides on my Glocks about every four or five times I clean them. This allows me to clean brass particles, oil, solvent out of the fireing pin channel.I only detail strip the frame if I need to replace a part,or feel like playing with different trigger springs, connectors, etc.
