Posted this a few days ago on another forum. No luck getting an answer, so maybe somebody here knows.

Bought a used target/varmint rifle. Has a Leupold scope that I'd like to find out what model it is. It's not offered on Leupold's web site. I called Leupold, and got a very friendly, but not so helpful lady. Question was not answered. She thought it might be an M8, but from what I'm finding on the net, the M8 topped out at 12X.

The scope is a fixed power 24X-40. Has target dot reticle. Has adjustable objective, with calibrations from 50 to 400 yds then on to infinity. Two gold rings on objective end.

Thanks,

Sounds like the old Leupold target scopes.

Yep,

You have one of the older Leupold Target scopes. I have that same scope only in 36 power. They are no longer made, and that's why they aren't shown on Leupold's web site. IIRC, they are M-8's.

The Leupold lady did say she thought it was an M8. But I came across a site somewhere that showed M8s topping out at 12X. So I had some doubts.
