I have a Mossberg M500 blued that loves to rust and since it is a goose gun and sees a lot of use and abuse i want to paint it and be done with it once and for all. How should I go about this?

I would suggest getting it duracoated.

I have not heard anything bad about duracoat. Have even seen a few that were done with it. If you wanted to maybe take an even cheaper route try the snake skin they have in cabela's. Plus it is available in 3 different camo schemes.
