I just picked up 500 Winchester 55rg fmjbt bullets. I have tried a couple of different loads with them but I am spraying them everywhere. I am shooting them out of a Savage Model 12 FVSS. I know the gun shoots super tight cause my 52gr loads are putting 5 shots inside of a nickel at 100yds. These aren't a match bullet but I know that with the right charge they will shoot better. Any suggestions?

I shoot a Remington .223 VS and a Bushmaster Shorty with free-floated barrel. I've never been able to get any kind of accuracy from Winchester's bulk 55gr. fmj bullets. Best accuracy I've found from bulk 55gr. bullets was with IMIs, which I can't find anymore.

I don't think your load is the problem; it's those crappy bullets!

That's kinda what I figured. If anyone out there still has a favorite 55gr load they might want to share I would love to hear from you. Now I have a pile of these to fire off so I'll take all the info I can get.

I also just came home with some Sierra 69gr HPBT-Match to try. Any suggestions for that one would be appreciated too:confused: .

For 69gr SMK's

My Favorite load is Reloader 15 with 24.0 to 24.8 grs. Extremly accurate.

Varget with 24.0 to 25.0 grs. Very accurate but might not get good bullet speed with it.

AA2460 23.5 to 24.0 grs. a ball powder and very accurate.

H4895 24.0 grs. Shoots very well and accurate.

I use Lake City brass with Rem 7 1/2's or CCI BR primers. I prefere the Remington 7 1/2's and they work well in my AR. These loads could be slightly compressed when seating the bullet. Not as much as a 77 gr. SMK though. As always work the load data up.

I loaded 20 of the Win. 55gr FMJBT bullets to try in my Remington 700 VLS 223.Thought maybe I'd get lucky, and find a cheap load. I fired 5 of them into a 2" group @ 100yds. That's part of the fun of reloading....finding loads to NOT reproduce. They seem to do OK for plinking from my AR though. I did stumble accross a decent load with the Midway Dogtown 55gr bullets and 26.5gr of my surplus IMR 4895. Not a fast load, but consistently gives me 1/2" to 3/4" groups @ 100yds.

I'm getting <1"-10 shot groups with 26gr IMR4895 @ 100yds W24" match upper 1-9twist @3150 fps and a SD of 11. Not bad from a gas gun. Highest match score 600/54X's (60 ROUND MATCH)
