View Full Version : How Do CMC Powermags Fit in Your 1911?

Ordered McCormick 8 round Powermags for my Kimber Custom Classic. The mag extends just a little past the end of the grip; in other words, the mag pad is not flush with the end of the grip. The regular shooting star 8 round mags that I have fit flush to the grip (which, IMHO, looks better than having a gap between the mag pad and the end of the grip).

I've recently seen pics of other brands of 1911s w/Powermags, and the mags also extended past the end of the grips on those guns.

If you use Powermags in your 1911, let me know whether the mag fits flush w/the end of your grip; perhaps the Powermags do it with every brand of 1911 due to the design and materials of the mag.

Meanwhile, I'll try to decide whether to return the mags, or keep 'em and live with 'the gap'.

When I still had my two Colt 1991A1s, they both fit flush with the CMC Power Mags.

Because of their "removable base pad" design, a bit of the steel mag body does protrude out of the stock magwell on a 1911. It's completely normal.

They stick out a tad in all of my guns.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll try one and see how it runs in the gun instead of sending them back right away. I got a good deal on them.

IMO they are the best 8 round mag available. They are also the most reliable in my experience.

I agree. In my experience they were better than the much talked about Wilson 47D.
