I looked at and handled one today and was very impressed with the rifle. I think it's a great price and the accuracy has been said to be on par with or greater than that of the AR-15. ArmaLite assures 2 MOA, but many tests have found it to be MOA or even sub MOA in some cases. Uses a gas piston so no receiver fouling. Takes AR-15/M16 .223 mags.

What are your opinions on this rifle? Anyone have personal experience with it?

I've had one for a few years and although it has been very reliable, easy to maintain and fun to use, I would not classify it as a 1 MOA rifle. Armalite is accurate when they say it is a 2 MOA gun. I've used mine for 3gun matches and it worked well, it is not more accurate than my Colt 6721LE Hbar carbine.

That said, I think it is one of the better deals out there.

you want a piston operate AR type rifle, you might want to poke around for a Daewoo.

A Daewoo K1A1 is gonna set you back about $1200. You can pick up an AR180B for half that, or less.

I like my AR180B, and I find it quite accurate. It shoots groups as good as any of my AR rifles, (excecpt my old Colt HBAR Heavy Target).

You could look for a Daewoo DR200 I have seen them from $550-$700 range. Very nice guns.

I think the K1A1 is direct impingment. The DR200 is what I was thinking of. They can be had for about ~500 bucks. Thumbhole stock, but I think it avoids some of the cheapness of the AR180, and gets you the gas piston setup among other things. Personally I should quit talking about them, before people start catching on and driving prices up.
