OK, I cannot locate any XM193, so I am probably gonna get some lake city M885 if I get an AR-15 to store away.

Any other alternatives for 55 gr. M193 style ammo

Winchester Q3131a is the same (damn close anyway) as Fedral xm193. m885 is better for penetration and is 62 grains .check around there should be some XM193 available . try the ammoman :D

What exactly is the question?

Green tip, controlled pairs, center of mass gets the job done if we're talking anti-personnel applications.

Sure works on pumpkins...although I did hit one that only left a small .22 hole on both sides. But the others made nice big ones upon exit.

Oh by the way, ammoman has the last cheap stash of 855 left, and his site now says that a huge price increase is coming...So unless you know where to get ANY ammo for less than 250/case, get it while you can.

I meant fragmentation effectiveness (should've clarified that).

BTW...How long can you store ammo for? It would be in .50 cal ammo cans

Frag effectiveness is probably on par with some 55gr but it does have an odd tendency to occasionally NOT frag. I would guestimate that out of a mag of 30, maybe 3-5 would not frag. The others would blow stuff wide open. I'd often heard stories of this, but finally witnessed it firsthand with the pumpkinds.

"Big hole, big hole, big hole, Hey what's with that one?"

So just put more than one round into whatever you're shooting and it shouldn't be a problem.

Saw a guy post that he was touching of some vintage 1940 something 50 cal ammo. Said it worked fine. Thats at least 60 years LOL.

Hehe... Thats why I like .30 cal+. Because with a .223 and the ammo they are issuing our troops 10%+ of their rounds are .22 magnums, and that is if they are even in fragmentation range. Outside of it, 100% of their rounds are .22 magnums.

Yeah its effective if you use 2-3 rounds per BG. So now you have to carry 2-3 times more ammunition and your effective magazine capacity is 10-15 rounds. It makes perfect sense.

speed kills and that is one reason that they went to the 5.56mm big rounds help but in turn if you compensate a little round with high velocity you have the advantage of using the enemies body mass against himself aka "Hydrolic shock" believe me I am not a big believer in the .223 but I understand the premise of why they went to it.
1.) ammo capacity
2.) accuracy
3.) does maximum damage upon impact
4.) range
5.) speed kills
it's not a .308 or .30-06 but it gets the job done
