i need a 9mm for the range
it has to be inexpensive, reliable, and a good shooter.
it is only for plinking not ccw.
i carry glock 23, 27 sig 220 kimber tac pro 2 for ccw and backup.
i just have a surplus of 9mm but no guns.
also considwering carbines. just don't want to spend a lot of money on a new "toy".

Used Ruger P89. Put together like a tank. Can often be found for around $250 - 275.

Cheap 9mm carbine - cant beat the HiPoint.

Mines been great.....the only other 9mm firearm I own is a Browning High Power.....which isnt cheap, but it is a damn fine gun.

Cheap 9mm handguns, I would call CDNN and see if they have an 9mm Smith and Wesson trade-ins left. They were going for well under $300 when they had them.

I'll add another "vote" for the Hi-Point. I paid a bit more for mine than that, but it's a good, reliable shooter. It might not look like much, but it works pretty darn well.

I also like the look of the Walther P-1's I've seen at my local gun store. I've never shot one, but I've read reports that seem to indicate they also work well. Cost more than a Hi-Point, but they're under $300.00 around here.

IM very happy with my Rugers. Went to the range and took my P94,P95,SAXD9. Of the three I will say my P94 rocks, I just love this gun. It was my first Ruger semi in which I was so happy with it I now have five of them. My three Ruger semi-9mm are P89,P94 and P95. All are good firearms but my number one is the P94,Second P95 and then the P89. Any of them will perform well and exceed what you want . Be safe. :D

S&W 3913. About the size of the Kahr and holds an extra round. Very accurate and reliable. Can be had LNIB for under $500. Regards 18DAI.

Only if you break it you may have trouble getting parts but at $150 you can't beat it.

I only own one cheap 9mm. The Sigma SW9VE. Cost about $300.00 NIB, life time warranty from S & W, never a FTE or FTF in over 800 rounds and not too ugly. I really like everything about this pistol except I would perfer a little lighter trigger pull. The trigger is very smooth, and getting smoother but a little heavy. It's a work horse. I'm sure there are many other extremely good, low cost pistols out there but you might keep this one in mind. Good article in www.gunblast.com by Jeff Quin about the Sigma.
You've certainly come to the right place for advice. Good luck.

Cheap & reliable are seldom compatible. I'd vote the Ruger 95D. It may be the exception!!!:D

They are reasonable and pretty reliable. Some need help on the trigger, but over all very good choice, in that price range.

Either Ruger or CZ as already mentioned. The trigger on the Ruger P89 is a hard pull in DA but works in SA pretty well. CZ triggers are much better than the Ruger IMHO. CZ's have other spring issues. Both seem to go bang every time and the Ruger seems to feed anything you throw at it.

The Kel Tec p-11 is a good 9mm for around $235.

The S&W SW9 Sigma Series are relatively inexpensive, and they are great for just toting to the range. Simple design, and easy to use. I never had a problem with mine, I only got rid of it when I needed to pay some bills, and didn't really need a 4th gun.

For between $250-400 you should be able to find 9mm semi-auto's from CZ, EAA Witness, Ruger P-series, or S&W (steel frame) that should be fine.

A friend of mine recently got a 9mm Tokorev. Ugly and single action, but his was pretty cheap. ($125-200 range)

If you want real cheap, I've also heard that High Point's are surprisingly reliable for the money.

for the price and durability I'd go with a used S&W 59 series, you can get them from KY Imports for just under 300, or you could go with a Ruger (also used) they are built like a tank and will shoot and shoot.

I have too many guns, 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, 357 SIG, 45 ACP....but I really enjoy my Stormlake conversion barrel in a Glock 23 so much that I just ordered another 9mm conversion barrel for another G23 from Lonewolf, $90 plus a magazine get you going.

I had originally changed the trigger housing to a 9mm housing in one G23 but went back to the regular .40 trigger housing and have no problems.

Lieut96,

Where can you buy a new Glock for $398?

No flames, just asking.

I know prices vary from state to state...but I also know what dealer cost is and I can't get a new Glock for $400.

Plenty of used S&W police trade backs for under 250 if you look around. Same with Berettas. I just passed on two 92-centurians for under three each as they were really loose. Bought one two weeks ago that was near perfect for 275.

If you want new, I would have to say that bastard child of S&W the sigma. talked a friend into one as a first pistol and he has put thousands thru it now and loves it. he paid less than 300 all up tax included.

YAY, after posting on this thread I got back into looking around at Rugers and just found a Ruger P95 for 200 bucks... only 1 mag, but you can't have everything, I'm picking it up saturday.

How about a Baby Eagle? They are about $300-$350 around here, and seem to be great pistols. I had one in .40 and I loved it, but I have passed it on to my Dad because he didn't have a "real" pistol and now he won't give it back!
