SKS stock Furniture replacement... Question

There is a pin holding the top half of the front furniture to the gas tube on the SKS. The ends are flat, so it doesnt screw in. How do I go about removing the piece? Is it a "hammer and a punch" job?

To me it looks like a hammer and punch job, but I could be wrong. I wondered the same thing when I was de-cosmo'ing my Yugo a few months back. I have chosen, at least for the time being, to remain with the stock furniture. But, I am giving consideration to picking up an unissued Yugo to keep all stock, and modifying everything on this first one. I would suppose that I would also need the answer to this question before attempting the replacement of the furniture.
