I am looking a 12 gauges and I saw a brand new 500 with 2 barrels one a rifled slug barrel with a scope mounted on the barrel and the other is a regular field barrel. The price tag is $350 is this a good deal?

Hmm, I think I paid $200 for just a 500a about 7 years ago. A new barrel is a little over $100 and a scope is, well... just the gun and barrel would be around $300 lowballed. So I guess it depends on the goodness of the scope.

I paid about $175 a year ago for a used 500 with 28" ventrib barrel.

Rifled barrells are about $145 for a 24".

So if $350 is for a new shotgun, and you actually need the extra barrell, I don't thinks it's a bad price.

If want to go deer hunting with the slug barrel then it looks like an ok deal as long as the scope is a quality brand (bushnell, burris, etc.). if you don't think you will ever use the slug barrel, then I would just go for a normal 500. I picked a 500 12 ga. up 3 years ago from wal mart (emergency buy while on a pheasant hunting trip, because my firing pin broke on my 11-87 and the local gunsmith wanted a fortune to fix it) for about 250. The mossbergs are good "cheap" shotguns that you won't have to worry about throwing under or behind the pickup seat unlike an $800 11-87. I have not had any problems with mine and I abuse it a lot. They seem to make them a bit better then the remington 870's in the same price range.

I just picked up the exact same setup at Dick's Sporting Goods on sale for $199. Regular price was $299. Believe it or not, I actually got a deal in Connecticut! See if you can do better that $350 somewhere else.

If youre in the western US goto Big 5 sporting goods. The 500 is on sale w/ both barrels (28" and 18.5") for $200. $350 sounds pretty steep for around here. I had my 500 for 15 years and shot the heck out of it. They are extremely reliable and a great gun. You can find sales on them all the time if you look around.

I have hunted with a slug barrel for several years. I am confident that every deer that I have shot at with it will tell you that they are lucky to be alive because I was using a slug barrel and not a rifle :)
Or maybe because I am just a bad shot with it
This year I will try a scoped rig that I will sight in first.
