If I get a used 9mm, is there much concern for +p reliability? Do I have to get a certain model/brand if im going to be using that kind of ammo?

Sorry I dont know yet. Im planning on getting a 9mm for fun and practice, looking to spend under $300 if I can. I know quality may be low, Im not opposed to HiPoint or Makarov. Just wondering if I should rule out ever using +p for this reason.

makarovs are a DIFFERENT 9mm than what many call a 9mm (really 9x19 or 9mm parabellum). Makarovs are 9x18 and have a slightly larger diameter than the "9mm" you may be referring to. They DO NOT fire from the same guns. That being said, Hipoints are rated for +P, but +P will wear out firearms faster.

And you won't get much more performance out of a +p round, anyway.

My 9mm is rated to handle +P, but I use standard pressure ammo 99% of the time. Most cars can go over 100mph, but regardless of what make or model you have (even sports cars), if you drive that fast regularly , your car will need more maintenance, and your engine will wear out quicker. Every once in a while is ok.

+1 mark54 9x18 and 9x19 (9mm luger) are different animals. I don't think a 9x18 +p exist.

My old Taurus PT-111 Milennium Pro said specifically NOT to use +P, so don't assume all newer 9mm's will accept it.

Whatever one you get, read the manual that comes with it, or make sure you check with the manufacturer to make sure +p is OK. At the price range you want, there are a lot of guns that won't handle +p.

A used Ruger P95 should be under $300 easily, and I know they are rated for +p. Better yet, get a new one for $350 plus tax, assuming it fits your hand.
