I own a Sig p228, and wanted to know if there was anywhere I could go to check when it was made buy using the serial number. The number on the slide and gun is: B 252 952
If you know how to find out where it was made, and when, it would be much appreciated, Thanks so much,
Nick

Does your P228 say made int Germany or Exter, NH? This would be a start.

Try your question here:

There are fanatics on that forum who could probably tell you the name of the guy who assembled it, as well as his children's names. :D

Call Sig customer service. They will give you the manf. date over the phone. I did that with my used Sig.

On the bottom of the slide just behind the muzzle you will find two letters. Turn the pistol over and it will be just in front of the dust cover of the frame.

These are the date codes.

To read them:

A=0
B=1
C=2
D=3
E=4
F=5
G=6
H=7
J=8
K=9

Letter I is skipped.

AD - 2003
KJ - 1998
etc, etc.

oops, Its said made in germany on the right side, but then I looked on the other side and it said Exter, NH. And the year said KG, So I guess thats 1996, cool stuff, does this mean much in terms of value? Thanks again, I knew I could count on ya'll,
Nick

I believe that P228's keep pretty good value overall, but I don't think that the production date of the gun would have much of a factor unless it was a special year.

Right now a 228 is not a hard gun to get. But I would hold on to that gun;)
