I shot this 7 shot group at 75 yards'' with my marlin 17 vss.I had two flyers, due to walking back and forth got my hart rate up and made it difficult to hold steady. After shooting the 7 shoot group in this qarter i set up this 223 brass, and 9mm brass. punching out he primers was a tricky task @5o yards but got them both in my first try . Here also a group shot @ 275 steps last year in low wind conditions, on a life size ground hog.

Please post your pics .....

Nice shooting. Is that 17HM2 or 17HMR?

My son and I have the 17 HMR, they are tack drivers! I could not believe how accurate they are! After some practice on a nice calm day, I was hitting pennies at 100 yards. On the paper target, I was clover leafing the groups and could cover them with a dime. Outragous to say the least!
We both have the Marlin 917V, .17 HMR, with 8x32x40 BSA Contender scopes.

I have a marlin 882 .22 mag. By reduceing the strenght of the bolt spring and polishing a few trigger parts, the accuracy improved. then I free floated the barrel and fit the action to the stock. After all this my 100yrd. groups went from 1 1/2" to 3/4", with some ammo I achieved 1/2" groups :D

I just bought a Cooper Jackson Squirrel in 17HM2. It will be here Wed or Thurs. Its my first 17, so I'm new to the caliber too. Im pretty excited. I bought 400 rnds of ammo last week, and I keep looking at it. My wife thinks its "cute".

I have a Savage in 1HMR. If it is a very calm day, I have no problems grouping 1MOA at 100 yards, and usually half that. However, get a few slight gusts, and I can be several inches off easily. Get a stiff wind, better put it up or take only very close shots.

The 17hmr will drift less in the wind than the .22 mag. This may be do to the bullet's shape, or that the wind has less to push against.

For your best accuracy, try different brands of ammo.
Happy Shooting!

My 17mach2 is becoming my favorite caliber ever. Cheap, accurate as hell, and certainly knows what to do to them squirrels!

yeah 17 is so much faster than 22 mag it does not have as much time to drift and out to 100 it really has to be a strong gust to take it off target but after 100 yards wind will mess with it. i have learned to allow for most of it .

TPAW,

Thanks for the heads up. I bought Hornady, CCI, and Eley so far. I'll see which is best in my gun.

I've got a marlin 917 vs with a 4x16x40 BSA mildot. Also have a 14oz. rifle basics trigger installed. With Federal spitfire ammo my best groups average around 1/4" @ 100 yds. They are amazing weapons.
