I just bought a FM M95 Detective Hi-Power. The gun looks pretty good. My friends started talking about Hi-Power couple months ago. I got interested and started looking for one. I found this one brand new from a very friendly guy, and bought it for $225. This will by my entry level peice and might move to a Browning model in the future. Will update when I hit the range next week.

I have a full size FM Hi-power. It's a very good shooter. Mine isn't perfect, it has alot of machining imperfections. But, I only paid 150 for it. A little warning for you, watch out for slide bite. If i'm not careful I end up getting a little tore up between my thumb and index finger.

Please give us a range report when you get time. I have wondered how the Detectives shoot. That would make a nice CCW pistol for someone on a budget. It looks to be quite compact.

Just out of curiosity, what is stamped on the right side of the slide towards the end of the barrel? I can't quite read it...

If it shoots anything like the full sized Hi-Powers, you'll be well pleased with it. Have fun and shoot safe!

The stamped on the right side of the slide says, "M95 Detective".

Very nice! I look forward to your range report. I'm not in a position to purchase one of these Detective models at the moment, but they have picqued my interest. Enjoy!

Lucky dog! One retailer had the same gun on their website for ages at $350. You did well! Please post a range report later.

BACK FROM THE RANGE:

I went to the range today and MAN... this baby shoot well. At first I hesitated to even buy this gun for $225 because I don't know much about FM brand. I heard many good things about the Browning and FN brand but not the FM brand. However, because it was my entry level Hi-Power and that it looks nice with the shorter barrel, I decide to buy it. BOY, I got a winner! I would have regret not buying the baby.

It shoot as well as my Springfield XD40, however it is smaller than the XD40, it kinda looks like my CZ PO1 if you look from the top of the gun. Also, just about the same size as the PO1. The grip feels well, good and tight. It came with one 13 round mag. If you can find one for under $300, go for it IMO. Here's some more new pics.

Tom650604: Damn! That's what I'm looking for. I like the Hi-Power, but don't want to drop 600-700 on a new Browning. You got a great deal! Please post your experiences with it from time to time. I'd like to see how it rates in realiablility, accuracy, etc. after yoy run a 1000 rounds through it. Thanks

Fabrica Militar (FM) is Argentina's state arms manufacturer and makes licensed copies of the Hi-Power so should be pretty close to the original in at least function, though your sample has had some cosmetic revisions. Parts should be interchangable with the FN guns.

has an article on page 58 entitled "Latino Hi-Powers" about the M-95 Classic and Detective models which might interest you (of course, you already have one). :)

I like the Hi-Power, but don't want to drop 600-700 on a new Browning.

Check out CDNN for FN Hi-Powers. They sold out of the 9mm MKIII standard SA models, but still have SFS ones. The SFS system is pretty neat and doesn't make the gun handle any differently. Same gun as the Browning, just less expensive......
