I have a Remington Model 710 30.06 caliber. It came pre-mounted with a Bushnell 3-9x40. (Pretty cheap scope) I was looking to purchase Leupold's Rifleman 3-9x50. I searched on their site, but they don't offer any mounts for the Remington 710. They do however, offer mounts for the Rifleman 3-9x40 on my Remington. This may be a stupid question, but does this mean the 3-9x50 can't be placed on a 710? OR, is it possible to use the existing Bushnell mounts for this new scope? Any advice would help tremendously. Thanks

The 3-9-50 can be placed on the 710. However, you will probably have to buy another set of mounts, as I don't think that the factory mounts are high enough. You can just go down to your Wamart and pick up a set.

And welcome to TFL! :)

It's a bit self-defeating to install a scope that costs more than the rifle. I would suggest an upper-priced Simmons or Tasco 40 or 44mm. Nothing against the Leupold - they are great scopes - but are a bit pricey for an entry-level hunting rifle.

I would trade the whole 710 package and the money the Leuopold costs and get a Howa or a Savage or a Stevens and another Bushnell scope.

IMO the scope should always be where the money is spent. Too many times Ive seen cheap scopes on $700+ rifles. The 710 is a practical rifle and DOES perform better with a different scope. I have mounted a Redfield on mine that I had just laying around. No offense, I like the rifle other than the sticky bolt.
