Question.....picked up an M1Carb. awhile back. It's not an original, was manufac. after Korea. It is a good shooter and in exc. cond.

I was trained with M1 Garand & M14 back in the '60's. Could you tell me if the M1 carbine's bolt locks back(open) after the last round is fired. This one
doesn't. Thanks for the input...................GAP

No it doesn't.

There is no automatic bolt hold open, but there is a manual hold open.

On the top of the operating rod is a small button.
Pull the op rod all the way back, press the button down and hold it down as you ease the bolt forward.

The hold open will engage a cut in the receiver and lock the bolt open.

Note that this is NOT a very sturdy lock open device.
Give the rifle a bump, and the bolt will slam shut.

There is another bolt hold open, but this one is in the 30 round magazines.

30 round magazines have a special magazine follower that locks the bolt open on the last shot.

This was for use in the full-auto M2 automatic carbine, and served to let the shooter know the rifle was empty.

As soon as you pull the magazine out of the rifle, the bolt will slam shut.
