What would you call the sturdiest hunting style rings and mounts? I know the badger stuff is built like a tank, but that's more sniper rifle type stuff (30mm, picatinney, etc).

I'm planning my next rifle purchase and I'm no bolt gun guru so I wanted some good input.

You will not go wrong with Leupold bases and rings.

I am sure there are other good sets out there. After having the early bad experience of aluminum, I went to first class steel bases and rings and have never done anything different since.

I've run about 4,000 rounds through my '06 over these last 35 years years, using Weaver rings and bases. No problems whatsoever. The Conetrols on my .243 are prettier, and have not loosened in some 1,000 or so rounds.

I like the Talley lightweights - they incorporate the base and ring, eliminating the ring-to-base joint that can come loose.

...the Conetrols look sexy too, but a little too rich for my hunting rifles.
