I have a .22lr Winchester Model 74 rifle. I know next to nothing about it other than it was made around WWII. I have yet to take it out to the range as well. Are these rifles any good relative to other 22s?

Hang on to it for dear life. 74's are fine rifles. They were made in 22lr and
22 short, but not interchangeable. I grew up as a boy on a rural NC farm,
and learned to shoot at early age. Just open sights, no scope. Very accur-
ate. Have lighted diamond head matches with one at 15 feet. Go to
Winchester web site for details of manufacturing years, etc. My father's
74 was stolen during breakin. Am keeping eye open to buy one in excellent
condition.

I have one with a Weaver K-4 mounted on it. A nice old semi-auto. It can be cleaned from the breech end, which is a good thing.
