Did a search on refinish 1911 could not find much. What is the best finish for a carry 1911? I like the look of a two tone, sliver frame, black slide. Thanks Rich

I know you asked specifically about a carry gun but I have to put in my .02 for Springfield's Black Stainless finish ...

... to my eyes, that's the prettiest 1911 finish going!

How about Roguard on the slide and NP3 on the frame?

Well for a carry 1911, you're looking at a finish that is DURABLE.

Sorry DoItRight, but the Black Stainless finish is one of the LEAST DURABLE finish.

The most durable, would be hardchrome, then Black T or Roguard. Parkerized is also durable if properly oiled.

Now, if you dont feel comfortable carrying a hardchromed gun, look into some of the black finished i've listed.

Just remember, any finish can rust if not properly maintained. To maintain, wipe down the gun after handling, and run a thin coat of oil over the finish every once in a while. Also, Keep it away from moisture.

Full hard chrome is the way to go with a carry gun. You won't get the two tone look but you get an extremely durable finish and extreme rust resistance.

IMHO the ONLY finish for a 1911 is parkerized.

For Carry I would Hard Chrome the frame and have the slide done in Black-T (Teflon). Many refinishing companies around the county offer these finishes.

Just as side note, I went to the gunshop to pick up my new Glock 23. I asked the same question to the guy behind the counter. His response....Krylon paint. He said there is not much that is as effective as good epoxy paint. I left being thankful I got good price on the Glock, but that I don't have to rely upon this kids wisdom in firearm related matters. I had to point out that if he thought I was going to spray paint a $700.00 SA 1911A1 that his bulb must not be running at full power!
