What are you guys using to maintain proper slide action?

Currently using Break Free CLP but seems dry after a week in the safe.

Thoughts?

grease just seems like it would cratch dirt and whatnot and that might be an issue, ever try dry lube?

RIG +P Stainless Steel lube on the rails of all my guns. CLP on the barrel.

Plain old Break Free CLP here. My 469 is 20 years old with several thousand rounds through it. Nothing else used. No sign of wear. Cleaned and oiled every 2 weeks if not shot.

So you will oil your pistols every 2 weeks even if you do not use them?

Tetra Gun Grease on the rails and bearing surfaces, liquid Tetra on the barrel and other areas needing a liquid lube.

I too use Tetra on the rails and bearing surfaces...that stuff is great! Its non migrating (it dont "drain" off like gun oil does after a few days of sitting muzzle down) and really isnt a magnet for dirt.(a little goes a long way)
Tend to use a all synthetic oil(mpro7) for everything else.

I use TW25B from Mil-Comm on my slides and rails, Break Free CLP on everthing else.

Grease all the way. Grease on the barrel contact surfaces too.

FP10 on everything including inside barrel, does not collect dust, "seems" to improve accuracy, gun stays clean and I have not detected any wear.
No more grease. :)

Answer to topspin43-

Yes, I clean guns every 2 weeks when not shot. Try to get to the range about that often but sometimes can't so I clean and lube. Started doing regular weapons maintenance in 1965 when I went in the Army and have continued to this day. Now I'm retired so I have more time. Not really a big deal because it is a routine. All my weapons are in top condition and I wouldn't hesitate relying on any of them to come through when necessary.

I used to use BreakFree but recently switched to Slide Glide gun lube, is a grease, doesn't run or sheer, the stuff is great. Highly recommend it.

Not.

But I shoot IPSC up here all year 'round (yes, we hold "Winter Matches"; shovel down four feet to the ground...www.gmps.ws) in the cold (-25F) and the heat (100+F) and the gritty dust and such, then I go other places in the heat and the rain and the fine/gritty/talc-like sand/dust/etc.

As most know I firmly believe that "first it MUST go bang" so I have been trying different lubricants (and solvents, too) for 31 years.

On my 1911's and EAA Witnesses and a Glock and my Ruger revolvers I use TetraGrease on the slide rails (okay, no rails on the Rugers, but they got parts that mate) followed by a drop of Breakfree CLP.

I use grease on most all the 'battered' surfaces, because that's what normally wears out the gun.

Oneamy Witnesses is now no doubt well over the 40K-rd-ct mark, and (I'm sure) my Caspian 1911 has most likely passed the 10K milestone.

They run when I need them.

(I refuse to relube during a high-rd-ct match. Just me. I have reasons; know what I mean?)
