WARNING BIG IMAGES

Finally, I got sick of the whole project so just slapped it together and got it finished...so here it is, my new custom carry piece that will sit in a drawer while I keep my mousegun in my pocket...

Colt defender, Novaks, Ed brown, C&S fc parts, checkered, reliability tuned, tefloned finsih. Did a good bunch of the work myself....Im happiest with the fit of the beavertail and the flawless Bear Coat teflon finish by Rocky Mountain Arms. My checkering job shows some flaws, I should have polished out the mold mark in the mag release and refitted the thumb safety a bit more, but hey, Im not Larry Vickers....

Next project...finish the 6.5x55

Great looking "shootin' iron", WA.

Not familiar with current Colt products. Is that model about the size of the Springer Micro/Ultra Compacts?

WildAlaska: Good looking gun. Is the color a matte, or semi-gloss? Thinking of doing mine one of these days. BTW...mine came with an XS Express sight that has the slanted "V" rear and I love it as its much easier on my old eyes, and has imroved my accuracy some.

Hi its matte, if it looks shiny its the smears of grease from lubing the rails and schmeearing it everywhere

How did you do the checkering?

Very carefully

Did you have the alloy frame re-anodized after checkering? I ask because I recently saw a Defender that had cracked clear across the frontstrap after being checkered... :o

Naw, considered it but the odds are (we have checkered about 50 of em without probs) that it aint gonna bust under normal use...

Was gonna use cerrakote for extra hardness, but it would have melted the glue holding my feed ramp in

if she does crack....buy another frame :D Or just give up on wrenched on pistols and grab one of those juicy Colt Gunsite Commanders littering the shop

Besides, shooting defenders are NASTY, today it will get a few hundred then probably wont get shot again for ages...when you use one in self defense you dont even need to hit your enemy, just touch off a round in a dark room and pretend its a flash bang

not to mention when WA raises his arms to level a pistol the stench from his 'pits can curdle milk.
stinkbombs and flash'nades. anything less would be uncivilized.

oh yeah, ask WA why its a good idea to keep your guns clean!

New thread on that cleaning guns issue Spiffy

As to the Defender, basically one multiround hole in center of targets at 10 yards with ball (which is what I carry and is all that should be used in these little guns), only failures were slide failing to go in to battery three times WHEN BEING A WIMPY LIMPER (limping these guns is always a problem, even worse when you get the tolerance stacking caused by teflon)
