I've been looking at the S&W 1911 .45 for a while and I like what I see and feel but have not seen many reports on the gun. Can snyone with some first had experience shed some knowledge? The intent of the gun is to be used in IDPA - CDP.

I bought one of the very 1st SW1911. #362

Well put together, uses quality parts (Briley, Wilson, etc), and with street prices still around $650 it's a true value.

They're terrific -- reliable, accurate, well-made and backed up by a lifetime warranty that's second to non. I have close to 1000 rounds through mine now, and I've had two failures, both in the first 50 rounds...the last 950 have been flawless.

I like mine so much I got the SW1911Sc (4.25" lightweight commander) to keep it company in my safe.

Virtually all reports I've read -- and, contrary to your research, I've read quite a few -- have been universally positive...all magazine reports, all owner range reports. As with anything, I'm sure there's a few disgruntled SW1911 owners out there...but they sure seem to be fewer and farther between than any other 1911 brand I know.

there was this guy who got it in the range last time. i took a look at it. it is a well made gun, looks very nice and smooth, except the gigantic SW1911 on the left slide. they're running about $730-$750 on sale around here.

I went to look at the used S&W 1911 I saw last week at a local shop. He had it marked for 625 +tax then came down to 575 + tax last week. I went in again today & I offered him 500 if he would throw in an extra mag - giving me 3 mags. We settled on 550 incl tax (5%) with the 3 mags.

It is a 98% gun that was well taken care of.

Thanks Joe, I shot him a low figure on the gun and never expected him to come down to tht far. Just goes to show you that you have nothing to loose if you just ask.

I can't pick it up til next week. Let you know how it shoots then.
