I just love browsing Pawn Shops. I have bought some really great things for pennies on the dollar and this purchase was no different.

Just browsing.....kinda sort looking for a table top sander and happened upon the gun case. There laying in the original box was a gently used Colt 1911A1 with all the papers and tools. Now mind you...this is the matte blue version of the WWII replica gun. They wanted $400.00 and I talked them down to $275.00. I immediately rushed it home, gave it a thorough cleaning and then off to the range with 200 rounds of Winchester White Box 230gr. FMJ. Best group was 1.75" @ 25 yards. I love a bargain. I would be willing to bet that this gun had no more than a couple of boxes of shells through it.

Now my 1911 collection is complete.

How about anyone else....any good Pawn Shop purchases????

About a year ago I picked up a HK 94 for $2100. I hadn't seen one for that cheap for years and haven't since.

My best friends uncle owns a pawn shop in a seedy area but, he never gives me a hookup or deal on anything. I found gunbroker, goamerica, and gun aution are cheaper than him.

A lot of my guns have come from Pawn Shops. It's unusual to see a Colt 1911 at $400, much less be able to get one for under $300! You done good!

Wow a Colt at a great price. Best I did was a Glock 17 with hi cap mag for $299 a few years back. I have also picked up an SKS with fiber thumbhole stock and scope for $100 . I would rather have your deal. Most the shops around hear are asking Retail for used guns.

A few years ago I was able to pick up a Ruger Redhawk 44 complete with leather cowboy type holster for $160 out the door. It wasnt on the shelf, I know the pawnshop owner. Got it for what the other guy lost it for. :)

What year is that beautiful K38 Combat Masterpiece? It looks like the twin of one I just got. The serial number dates mine to 1948 but the K38 CM did not begin production until 1949. I have a history request in to Roy Jinks on mine.

My serial is K2208XX. It's a 5 screw, so it has to be pre'55. That's about all I know.
The picture does the gun a lot of justice. It's actually a shooter, not a minty collector's gun. That's why I went ahead and put on a Hogue monogrip. It is my favorite revolver to shoot at the range. Sweet DA trigger and unfailingly accurate.

A Persian M98/29 Mauser in above excellent, near mint condition.

It was "near worthless" because it was from "Iran", and wasn't a "real" mauser, like the Yugo's, etc..

:D

$75 with matching bayonet

I jokingly told em if he gets any fake "Swedish" Mausers, "rebarreled" in the "weaker" 6.5x 55mm i'll take those off his hands as well..

A local pawn shop was a Benelli dealer, for which I was in the market. While looking, I asked about a used shotgun, which turned out to be a Benelli Special 80. Being unfamiliar with it, I didn't get it right away, but did some research. I talked him down to $500. The action was really slick and the barrel had been ported, but that's all I knew. All it came with was a MOD choke, so I ordered a Skeet 1, but it didn't fit. I took the gun to a good shop where I was told the barrel looked like it had come from Briley's custom shop. Sure enough, the Briley tubes fit and on further inspection and measurement I was told pretty much everything had been worked over, the barrel had a long forcing cone, was backbored, probably cost more than double what I for the whole gun. I shoots really well, especially for a $500 gun.

A long time ago I worked next door to a pawn shop and I found out that on the price tag were letters representing the amount that had been paid for the item. Therefore, offering $5 - $10 more than that, sometimes only that amount if it had been around for a while, would generate a deal. The letters spelled Mary Louise, M=1, A=2, ... E=0. Does anyone know of any other letter sets? I see this sometimes, but Mary Louise does not work.

The pawn shops around here specialize in two things:

1. Ripping you off.

2. Selling junk. Lorecin, Jennings, Hi-point, etc.

I have been prowling through some pawn shops in my area, but have had nowhere near the luck you guys have had. The results here sure have changed my mind about what I can find in the pawn shops and now I will actively look more!

Hmmm. :D

OK, but you didn't hear it from me and its probably not universal but ever notice how when you say whats your bottom dollar, they flip the tag back n forth a couple times and shoot you a price? The 'stock number' they look at is sometimes the price they have in it, written backwards with a couple letters added before or after to confuse you.

I figured this out on my own and found it to be pretty accurate. I'm sure some shops have their own 'idiot code' that they use but a lot of them use the price backwards.

Go get um. :D

Yep, looks like mid-1954. For the price a damn nice find.

I go to the pawn shops every once in a while and the best deal I ever came across was an STI 2011 Eagle 5.0 with 5 hi cap mags for $800. I just sold it to one of my shooting buddies and I'm beginning to regret it.

When I was a kid in HS, I worked in a luggage store and we used the code "WONDERFUL" using a "-" for zero - as in "E-" meaning $50
