Hi Guys,
I've all but ruled out putting a red dot on my Scout project rifle, but before I do, I'd like to here what yall have to say.

It will be a Rem model 7 youth in 7-08 in either the factoty youth stock or a cutdown B&C carbilite in freedom green.
Weight will be right around or just under 7 lbs and it will be 1 meter long.
I have two other rifles w/ Burris 2.75x scout scopes so I'm proficient w/the set up.
I'd get a Burris speed dot or Aimpoint. I'm thinking a 3 or 4 MOA dot would be about right.( if I get one)
It would be a general purpose rifle deer, pig, plinking rifle w/ targets 200 yds or less.

Thanks

i hAve a red dot mount forward on my AK but for a longer range rifle like what your setting up i would opt for some magnafication. i find the red dot great for under 100 yard plinking.

One reason I'm thinking about a red dot is I'm here in Kuwait sending lots of guys to/from Iraq and the GI Aimpoint is on about 60% of all rifles I see. I've seen a few ACOG's & ELCAN's here and there but it's mostly Aimpoints.
I'll have to ask a few guys if they would be good that far out.
I figure a 3 or 4 MOA dot would cover about 6-8" at 200 yds which is the kill zone on a deer or pig. I think they make a few red dots that are 2X.

You can buy magnified red dots from Aimpoint here: http://www.aimpoint.com/o.o.i.s/28
Or the USGI Aimpoint ML series can be had in a magnified version.
