View Full Version : If Sig would build cars...

I'd never drive anything else!

I like my Sig p220 so much, I cannot get the smile off my face since I left the range. :D

Today was major test and tune day. I took several guns that I either just got, just worked on or had new mags to test. Since my Sig has been my primary lately, I decided to really give it a workout. First, I ran through five 8 round mags (each mag loaded with different ammo) doing DA/SA first/second shot drills. Even though the DA is about 8lbs it's really slick and consistant.
Then I did some last 2/first 2 fast reloading drills with about 50 rounds.

Finally, I ran the target from 21 ft to 33 ft and just started blazing away for about 300 rounds.

I tried new mags, old beat up mags, cheap ammo, expensive ammo, offhand, limp wristing, from the hip, every way I could think of holding the gun safely and never a single malfunction or unexpected result. The brass all fell in the same general area too, which is nice.
Pull trigger = Bang 100%

Now only if my wife was as predictable as my 220.....
I wonder if she'd notice if I bought a 2nd Sig. :p

Do you have the alloy frame or stainless? I am going to go order one after work today (alloy), unless you tell me not to. :D

I just ordered an alloy 226 from CDNN today and I'm stoked ...

Mine is the alloy frame. Lightweight powerhouse. :D

Compared to cars, guns don't display nearly as much quality control. You can buy a car and drive it for several years without finding a single thing amiss. But even Sig puts out a fair amount of flawed weapons, despite only having 50 some parts. The only consumer item that seems much worse are PCs.

I wish Honda made guns.

I would dissagree with that. My guns have been much more reliable than my cars. And I'm not one to buy cheap cars either. Right now I have a brand new Jeep in the shop, but my Kimber is running fine and sitting idle at my hip.

I know what you're getting at, but aside from the complexity difference, consider this:

At 2000 rpm and 60 mph, each cylinder in a motor would have fired 200 million times in 100,000 miles. Most motors do that without a tuneup, and without a misfire.

But a better example of the quality difference between consumer items is the refrigerator. Commonly, $300 refrigerators will run their compressors for 20 years without leaks or decreases in efficiency.

So when you see a new $500 gun that won't feed, has ejection problems, or has components crack in 30,000 rounds, I begin thinking that guns aren't made to the standard of some other things you can buy. Call me crazy.

My SIG's* (both of West German manufactuer) have been 100%
reliable; and I can't say that about any vechile that I've owned.

*FootNote: .45 caliber P220A and a P228 9m/m.

Over the years I've had 220's, 225's, 228's, 229's(Yeak), 230's, and 226's. The only problem I ever had was with a 229 .40 with extractor problems. They would break periodically. All in all great guns.

Handy, I agree with you on the vehicles. But $600.00 does'nt get you what $25,000.00 does. :D

SIG's have been the most reliable of all the various quality manufacturers I've owned. Not that I wouldn't own or trust any other brand but if I had to choose one it would be SIG.

All the SIG love that's going around with my fellow TFL members is great. But if I keep praising them I feel like I'm tempting fate. ;)

All I know is that if SIG made a car, it'd be a hideous beast of a box that'd perform well. :D

Since their reliability is excellent and their sense of style is usually decent, I'd rather Beretta made cars. They'd be quirky in some respects, but all Italian cars already are to one extent or another.

I have a 220ST on the back shelf at work. Just waiting for payday to get it out.

Really want it now.

Sig already makes cars-they're called Volvos.
