Hello, I just bought a new P239 in .357 at a gun show today. I was wondering about dry firing the gun for practice? I am new to Sig"s and do not want to do any damage. Thanks!

Alot of people dryfire handguns, the only way I will is by using a snapcap. You risk breaking the firing pin by dryfiring without having something to cushion the firing pin.

Some designs are prone to busting their firing pins...the CZ-75 series comes to mind. I've owned around 15 or so SIGs, and have always dryfired the crap out of them...and I have yet to break a SIG firing pin.

If it's a concern, get a snap cap, but SIGs are fine to dryfire in my experience.

Good choice, by the way. The P239 is one of the very best carry guns on the market.

SIG will tell you that dry fire for their centerfire pistols is perfectly OK.

I haven't counted my empty ammo cases in a while, but I know that my P239 has at least 20,000 live rounds through it. I also know that I have dry fired it at least 4 or 5 times as many times as I have shot it- at least 100,000 times. It still goes bang & it's still my daily carry.

Sigarms and others like Beretta, Glock, and H&K is alright. They're built with LE in mind so they're made to take severe abuse.
