Federal makes a good 170 grain offering, but it's not too easy to find. Winchester offers a 170 grain loading, and you should be able to find it fairly easy. Don't forget, all US manufacture 8mm Mauser is SERIOUSLY underloaded, closer to .30-30 Winchester or .30-40 Krag pressure levels, due to the industry fear of somebody stuffing .323 diameter ammo into the older .318 bore Gewehr 88's, vs the .323 diameter Gewehr 98's. Eurpean spec 8mm Mauser ammo is much more up to snuff for the modern 98 Mauser action, and is every bit the equal of our own .30-06 Springfield for game on the North American continent. If you look around the distributers on the Web, you may find the S&B or other imported hunting 8mm ammo.

Sellier and Bellot make a 196 grain Soft Point Cutting Edge bullet (SPCE) that is loaded to full 8mm power. If you do not mind the stout recoil, I highly recommend it.
