Hey guys... my cousin got me for christmas a M44 in awesome condition with original oils and sling and such so it may be new i dunno, but i have zero knowledge about the M44 and just begun doing extensive reading and such i just want to know since a "friend" told me i can change out the wood to synthetic black stock..

Is this possible?? and if so where can i buy it??

also what kind of recoil should i expect (54g) compaired to like my 870 12ga?

thank you, any an all help greatly appreciated!

Sure you can change out the stock - Cheaper Than Dirt has them. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/default.asp

7.62x54R 200gr out of a Mosin carbine feels (to me) roughly equivalent to a stout load out of your shotgun - YMMV. The Mosin will throw a bigger fireball, though!

Have fun! You might check over at mosin-nagant.net and gunboards.com for more Mosin info if you're interested.

Are we talking about a Mosin-Nagant M44? If so...

You can expect more felt recoil than your shotgun.

You can put a synthetic stock on it, though the bayonet might need to come off, since most make no provision for it. IIRC, Tapco and Federal Arms Corp both sell such items.

Synthetic stocked Mosin Nagant? Yikes! Whats wrong with the wood? I always thought the wood on the Mosin Nagant was nice.
