I love those lever actions. I've got a chance to pick up a pretty nice Marlin 336 Cowboy in 30/30 for $240. Excellent checkering, blueing's perfect.

I'd been thinking about a Browning BLR in 22-250, but it's several hundred more bucks.

I just want another lever action for my collection, something with a little more ooomph than my Marlin 1894CS in .357. I've got a Remington 700BDL 30-06 for deer hunting, I just want a gun for fun (brush, varmits, targets, etc). $240 for the Marlin or save up an extra $300 for the Browning?

I just don't have that much experience with long guns to know which way I ought to turn, but I'm betting some of you guys do.

Thanks for your opinions!

Both are fine guns. The .30-30 would offer more versatility. However since you already have the ought six, personally I'd go for the Browning. The '.06 will do anything that the .30-30 will do and most things better. The .357 is a good handling, short range gun. The .22-250 would serve for other uses that are not well covered by the other two.

Plus the BLR is just down right sexy. :D

Given what you already have, the .30-30 doesn't "fill a hole". The BLR has a pretty good reputation for accuracy, so having one in .22-250 is rational. That cartridge is primarily a long-range varmint killer, so the need for accuracy is more important than for a 100-yard gun...

Besides, it never hurts to have some money saved up--you might find something you want even more!
