I just broke down and spent all my money on a Ruger 77/22 (stainless heavy barrel) and dropped in a Volquartzen sear and a nice target scope. Ooooh, it's SOOO nice to go out and shoot tiny little dime-sized-holes and not come away BROKE! Nice 2lb trigger, finally a gun I can hit things with! :D

Man, what a great little gun it is for the money. I looked at the 10/22's all tricked out, but with all the goodies I'd want it'd run $600-800, and it'd still be a pain in the butt to clean. I thought it through and bought the bolt-77 and it's accuracy is splendid and I only have $525 in the whole deal.

Highly recommend one if you are thinking about an accurate .22.

My wonderful wife got me a Kimber .22 w/ Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm as my wedding present. It is seriously the most useful rifle in my battery. I get to shoot it about once a week. My rifle skill has gone up dramatically! Enjoy your new piece!

I'm the same way....Why clean it?:p I'll shoot mine until
it stops cycling the bolt, and that takes thousands of rounds..

If it stops working all together,I'll go buy another one.
Heck,it's only $100 or so.........

I agree a 10/22 will go a long way without jamming or problems, but I still loathe to clean them, and you can bet your butt with a $700 10/22 I'd clean it when I shot it. Comparative to the bolt-action 77, it's a pain in the arse.

I just generally like bolt-actions better anyway, but that's just me.

Here's the groups I shot today after testing 10 different ammo's:

This is a 5 shot group from 50 yards with Rem/Eley Club Xtra (it was a windy day, too!)

This is a 10 shot group with the same ammo, after shooting about 200 rounds of various ammo - a pretty good indication of the rifle's consistency.

Heck, the worst ammo I had (Stinger) still shot under 1" at 50 yards! All but 2 brands could make .5" groups. I'm pretty pleased. I'm not a superb shooter, and I'm sure after seeing today's results a competant bench rest guy could get a .25" group easy with this rifle.

I'm quite fond of my 77/22 as well. :)

I picked up a Ruger 77/22 with scope in a pawn shop about 2 years ago for $200. It is the one rifle that goes to the range with me every time. I do love that rifle.
