Could anyone here tell me if an IMBEL reciever stamped sporter and L1A1 is an inch pattern or metric. I thought only England, Canada, and Ozzie were the only ones making inch rifles. It also has thumbhole and not supprssor must be after inport ban.

Thanks any help appreciated.

Oberkommando:

This is a sentence from http://www.fnfal.com regearding Imbel receiver being metric:

"Now lets get moving, To get this idea/project going I purchased two METRIC FAL type receivers from the dealers warehouse in Sacramento Ca. they are made by IMBEL of Brazil". (CAPITALIZATION were done by yours trully)

Good luck!
Johannes

P.S. ooooops, sorry I mishandled your "name" oberkommando. My brain goes on idle sometimes. I edited your name in this post and the other post.

Thanks again john, its just threw me when the side said IMBEL SPORTER L1A1. I figured they made metric recievers but the L1A1 got me confused as it is English designation. For the price I can't complain either way.

Thanks

Check out the FAL Files referenced above. I believe most Imbel receivers are metric, but I've read that some inch versions may have been made (special order for Century?).

Also, I believe some have been altered to accempt inch magazines (which evidently makes them less reliable with the cheaper and more common metric mags). I understand that Century Arms assembled some rifles using a mix of metric and inch parts.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I wouldn't assume that an Imbel receiver always means 100% metric. I did, however, recently purchase a new Century STG-58 rifle built on an Imbel receiver. I'm very pleased. Metric mags fit perfectly. Seems well put together (despite Century's sometimes poor reputation). I paid $589.95 from AIM Surplus (plus FFL fee, tax, shipping, etc.). Also got some new metric mags from AIM for $7.95 each.

Check in the mag well housing where the mag locks in (the front of the mag). If the space is a hollowed-out half moon then it's a metric receiver (upper). If it's a square block type cut then it's an inch pattern, accepting inch mags.

Imbel does make inch pattern FAL receivers. They cut the magwell for inch mags and cut the receiver for a folding cocking handle. Either way, you have a good receiver.
