Gun sighting

At gunshow today I saw a Smith & Wesson 5967 auto. Anyone ever seen one of these before?

I don't believe I ever have. What makes it different from a standard 5906?

I thought that I knew the Smith line. I was perplexed when I examined the gun. The same model appeared on the box.

I asked the dealer "do you know anything about this gun, its a non-catalogued gun?" He said "HUH", what do you mean, I've got the gun. So much for gun show dealers.

The gun has a 5900 stainless slide, a barrel that appears to be shorter by .75" than a 5906 and a blued carbon slide. Strange beast indeed.

Now that you described it, I do recall seeing that one in a S&W catalog several years ago (94-95?).

I believe the "6" in 5967 stands for "non-standard barrel length". The normal 5900 series have 4" barrels, the 5967 has a 3 1/2" barrel. I think the 7 would indicate that it is a two-tone gun.

I think these were made to be sold through Lew Horton.

I just purchased a 5967 S&W made in 1990 (new) only factory fired, and let me tell you it is a very nice looking handgun. It is actually a 5906 frame with a 3914 slide. The two tone looks really nice on this particular setup and the balance of the gun is incredible. A very nice addition to my Smith & wesson collection.........
