per Rich's post on AOL:

AOL does suck. I've been using tit for 8 years, and seen it go steadily downhill... this in addition to their megalomania. Grrrr. Some of us though, don't have a lot of good choices, and AOL is still useful for some thing... like if you travel.

I've been using AOL with the Explorer browser for about a year now, and it works fine, and in fact it cured the problem I had where TFL didn't even appear on the screen in a useful formatting. All my faves are bookmarked in IE, so that when I DO finally bail on AOL (soon, I promise myself), it will be painless.

Just sign onto AOL, and then open MS Explorer, and type the URL for TFL or any website. When it comes up, bookmark it. The only problem I have occasionally is when IE is already launched BEFORE I sign on to AOL... then sometimes I can't launch websites. I just quit IE, relaunch it, and go from there. Good luck, and I'll see you on the other side of the AOL fence soon.

CM-
Know that, if no-one else's is listening......
I am.

I get the emails:
"Why can't I log on"
"Why can't I post"
"Your software sucks"

90% are AOL browser users.
Thanks for the heads up.

You don't have to use explorer either.
There are several other GOOD browsers out there that actually work.
1. Mozilla. This is what I'm using right now. I think it's great. It has a good renderer core that handles lots of images really well. (like all of TFL's buttons and such) You can download it for free from mozilla.org.
2. Opera 6.1. This is a pretty good browser and I think the text looks better in it - if that's possible. Again, you can download it for free too... opera.com.
You even get a browser if you download Winamp.

Ditching AOL altogether is actually very easy. May even save you some cash and you'll get a faster connection for your browser. Just look around for a local ISP in your area. Ask a computershop. They will help you out. Don't just sit around and say AOL SUCKS - and keep using it. Do something about it. Connecting to another ISP is a lot easier that you would expect. Please, give it a try. You will be glad you did.
