Hello All:

Looking to purchase a .22 rifle for fun shooting and keeping sharp for deer season (my deer rifle is a CZ 7x57). Looking for an ACCURATE, well-made rifle. Will be scoped.

Love to pick up a Kimber, but not sure if I can part with that kind of scratch. Have no preferences as to bolt or semi-auto. Do I stay with CZ? I don't know much about their .22's. Piece together a Ruger? Ever since I was a kid I've liked the little Browning .22 semi-autos... Anything else? Like to keep the gun alone under 5 bills if possible, scoped under 7.

So, any and all opinions and feedback will be appreciated.

TIA,

Greg

I like building 10/22's. I have had good luck with them, but in your case I might go with a CZ bolt because it will mimic your deer gun. I have shot them at the range and was inpressed with them. The other great thing is they will not break the bank. I use my 10/22's in the off season to practice for the next years hunt but I use semi's to hunt deer also. The other Ruger I whould point you to is the 77/22, this is a fine gun and can be tricked out to your hearts content just like the 10/22 can. If you want a cheaper non detachable clip in a semi also look at the Marlin 60, there are not as many add ons for it but a fine rifle non the less. A last warning about the 10/22 is that they can be additive, you can spend 10 times what you payed for the gun just in add on's. I have been there done that and still love them.

The Remington 581 .22RF is a great gun and can be had for about $100...

I bought a CZ452 bolt action a few weeks back. Price was $189. Rifle seems like it is going to be a real fine shooter - well worth the price in my opinion.

Go with the CZ unless you want to pony up the extra cash for a Kimber or Cooper. They are accurate, well made rifles. I owned the same rifle marked a BRNO Model 2. It outshot any stock Ruger 77-22.

Marlin makes some fine 22's as well. Their line of heavy barrelled bolt and semi-auto's are tack drivers!

If you want the most accurate .22, get an Anchutz.

CZ 452. I bought one over the winter and it is an outstanding rifle. If the dealer is willing try to look at the test target included with the rifle before you pick one out. Mine came with a 50m target with all shoots in one raged .35 hole and one outside the rest about .25". With a 16X scope at 25 yds from a heavy rest with Fiocchi SM 300 it puts 5 rds in .30 every time. PS: I'm not just ranting on about my latest purchase, I have a Winchester 52B heavy target rifle w/ a 24X scope for small bore competition that shoots better but also cost 5 times as much. The CZ is the best all around use .22 value out there IMHO. ;)

I use an 8mm Mauser for my deer rifle. Bought a Marlin 25Mn to practice. I bought the 25MN because of the generally good things said about the 25MN and the Marlin line of bolt action .22's on this board.

Another vote for a CZ 452. I've had one for a few months and its done everything I've asked for it to do. I'd say that this is the best buy in 22 bolt actions right now.

I you want to shoot varmints, get a Cooper.

If you want to shoot paper, look for a used Anschutz. Many of the older rifles shoot just as well as the metal-stocked new models, but you'll spend a ton less money.

Kimber--I won't give that company another penny of my money after my experience with three of their pistols. How you can mess up CNC machining so badly I'll never know. My blood pressure rises just thinking about their deceptive marketing practices.

Love my Marlin 60 SS w/ matching 4x scope.

Great price, very good accuracy and fun! 14 shots in 1/2" at 50 yards consistantly.

At $159 bucks (in stainless, with 4x scope), hard to beat!

My recently new Remington 597 is unbeatable at twice the price!

to stay in style and function the cz452 seems to make the most sense. for less than half the price ($70) the romanian m69 is the best bang for the buck in an accurate .22lr bolt action

I'll have to cast my vote for the cz 452. I bought one about 2 years ago and it is the best .22 rifle I have ever owned. Unless you need a serious competition grade bench rest type rifle, you won't beat a stock CZ 452. Squirrels and crows tremble when I break out the CZ. Good shooting, Weagle

CZ (Brno) Model 2.
Well made,good feel,good sights,heavy precision bolt,both 5 and 10 shot mags available,scope mounts.
A far better built gun than the Anschutz (and I have two of them as well--incl the Model 54).
CZ/Brno are the most under rated guns around--probably because they are Czechoslovakian---bad mistake,
