I want to purchase a Marlin rifle (336s). I just found out that for new york city buyers, they come "special" from marlin. The six round tube has been plugged to hold only 5 rounds. My question: is this factory alteration final? If I leave NYC, will I be able to bring it back to the original 6 rounds via gunsmith? Or is the alteration such that Its not worth even trying. Anybody familiar with this problem/question?

My 1894 Cowboy came with a plug to keep it to 10 rounds. I removed it and now it holds 13 or 14 (I forget). The plug is a little plastic thing inside the spring just like a shotgun plug. Just look at your gun real good and check out the schematic in the owners manual, and you should have no trouble removing it yourself.
