"Westfield" 12 gauge?????????

OK, I'm at a loss.
Stumbling around my fav gunshop, I notice this shotgun in a rack.
Seems to have been there forever.
It's a Westfield; 12 ga, bottom ejector pump with some sort of factory turn-adjustable choke on the muzzle. Maybe a 5 shot cap?????? Anyway, it's marked $90. Guess it's 28".

A search here turned up "Westfield" only as the savage plant in Mass. Anyone ever here of these????

Sure it's not Western Field ? Contract guns built for Montgomery Wards by assorted manufacturers.

Like JC Higgins and Ted Williams guns, Western Field and later Westfield were made by varied makers for the chain stores, Sears, Monkey Ward, etc.

IIRC,Savage had a bottom ejector pump at one point that was not a total junker but had some probs. Down on Harley's forum they can nail it down better.

If you get the OK there, it might be a decent light duty field gun. The price is attractice, but there may be a worm in the apple.

I have a Western Field 12 guage I bought at a pawn shop for $125 bucks. Chopped the barrel off myself and now have a great home/woods 12 gauge. It's simply a Mossberg that was marketed through monkey wards. Best, J. Parker

Youre lucky, my Western Field was made by Noble. Tis a top ejector tho and does function.

Thanks, guys.
I'll be back at the store Wed or Thurs; try to get a serial # and such. Gun was well worn; racking grooves, disapearing blue, etc.
Was considering chopping the barrel; might be a fun piece for the money IF there are no worms in the apple. Letcha know.....
