S&W 686 barrel change
I own a S&W 686 with the two inch barrel. I have found a four inch barrel for $20 and was wondering how much a smith would charge me to change the two inch to the four inch barrel? I have no idea as I have never worked on revolvers....Thanks

The conversion to 4" barrel is not as straightforward as simply unscrewing one barrel and screwing in another. The extractor rods are different lengths so you will have to have a new extractor rod, you must set the barrel to cylinder gap, the barrel must index correctly, etc. You would be way ahead to trade your 2 1/2 inch gun in on a 4 inch model.

Kitt, it would probably run you $90 to $125 plus parts and shipping depending on who did it. George
