Glock 19 Pre-Ban Magazine Question

Ok, like an idiot, I ordered two brand new, high capacity, drop-free Glock 19 mags from a company in Reno, Nevada (I'm embarrased to say how much I spent ~$300!). Anyway, the guy on the phone said they were brand new in the package. I got my mags via UPS a few minutes ago. They were both in one #@%*$ zip-lock bag! I see that my version of being in the package is different than his version. On top of that, they weren't of the same generation. I got one generation 2 and one generation 3. My question is this, is the 3rd generation any better than the 2nd or vice-versa? The follower on the gen 2 is marked 9mm1 while the gen 3 is marked 9mm3. Any noticeable difference between these new mags? Thanks.

Eventually I expect the price of Glock mags to drop considerably. If I remember correctly, didn't they shut down pistol production for three months prior to the 94 ban, and make only magazines? As far as I know, none of these have ever made it to market.

On a side note, I passed up buying pre-ban 17rd G17 drop-free mags (factory) for $25 dollars apiece last weekend. The guy whom I didn't buy them from turned around and sold them for $75 each to a dealer at the gun show we were going too. Damn, damn, damn!
(FYI, I do not own a glock, thus my reason for passing them up. Boy was that stupid.)

Most folks say go with the 9mm3 followers. If the guy will take the mags back and give you a refund, you might want to do that. Glockworks occasionally has pre-bans for the G19 for $45-$50. I've never heard of anybody paying $150 each for G19 mags.

Therapydude - Sounds like you have been bitten buy the "One Eyed Jack". Glockmeister sells rebuild kits for the hi-caps that will have third generation followers. You might even be able to get these parts from the factory as well. Dont know the reason Glock changed the follower from the concave to the humped design. I have no problems with either design but prefer the drop free if nothing more than for investment purposes. Tree Rat.

Therapydude--FWIW, since both second and third generation Glock mags are FML, the vendor was okay in this respect. If it helps, I, too, have received a second generation G19 mag when ordering some FML pre-bans. Since it was as advertised (FML), I kept it.

I've never heard of an actual problem with second generation mags, but Glock didn't make them for long. I'd also be interested to know why the change to third generation.

Unlike the case with SIG mags, I'm not sure to what extent Glock mags come in an "original" package. I can say that of the dozens of Glock mags I've purchased, not a single one was in any kind of factory packaging--and this includes brand-new post-bans. Some had no packaging at all. Others were in a bag supplied by the vendor. Some mags had a label which at first I took to be a factory label. But I later learned that the label was in fact applied by a certain wholesaler. All this is just my experience--the experience of others may differ.

A Glock mag that's been significantly used should show scuff marks and maybe some deformation around the slot for the mag release.

If any problem arises with the 9mm1 follower, I suggest shipping the mag to Glock in Smyrna with a note, and they will upgrade it at no charge. Alternatively, a 9mm3 follower can be purchased separately from the Glockmeister.

IMHO the only thing really troubling about your transaction is the price. I'd say the vendor made every effort to maximize his profit, IOW engaged in a legal rip-off. My best sources for pre-bans are Glockmeister, R Guns, and CDNN. Of course, it's possible for transactions to go wrong with any outfit, including these three, but on the whole they're fine. OTOH, one or two of them certainly take a rosier view of some of their products than I do, so of course the buyer still needs to beware.

If they are indeed used mags, yes, you got ripped off. I bought used (police trade in) G19 mags here in Phoenix for just $80 a piece.

Actually Glock mags do come in individual wrapping. There are also those that come with a label wrapped around them. I wouldn't buy a "new" mag, espcially for what prebans sell for nowadays, without the sealed plastic mag or at the very least the factory label.

I don't know whether they have Glock mags, but check out "cdnninvestments.com". I got 2 new factory hi-cap S & W mags for several dollars _less_ apiece than S & W wants for its new lo-cap mags. But some websites charged as much as $100.
