Where can I find info reguarding Deadly Force laws?

I have been asigned an informative speech to do in class and I've chosen "Handgun Carry in the State of Tennessee" as my topic. My 3 main points are going to be: requirements for obtaining a HCP, laws reguarding, and the topic of deadly force. I'm not having any trouble finding info on the first 2 points, but I can't seem to find any laws stating anything about deadly force that doesn't have to do with law enforcement officers. I've searched google and various other websites. Can you guys help me out?

Have you tried www.findlaw.com ?

Here's the page for Tennessee laws: http://www.findlaw.com/11stategov/tn/laws.html

Hope this helps!

Pertinant Tenessee Codes on the use of deadly force:

39-11-604. Reckless injury of innocent third person.
39-11-613. Protection of life or health.
39-11-614. Protection of property.
39-11-621. Use of deadly force by private citizen.
39-17-1319(d)(H). Handgun possession prohibited - Exceptions.

From those codes, follow up any and all references to other code sections.

Good luck on the paper.

Remember, when researching a subject like this, put yourself in in a deadly force situation in your mind, and look up the pertinant laws to it (ie, somebody's trespassing can I shoot?, carjacking can I shoot?, salesman at the door can I shoot?, guy running at me with no weapon can I shoot?, I'm being arrested can I shoot?, etc, etc...)

Oh - and when in doubt, there's ALWAYS a referance to any law in the Criminal Offenses section.

Core foundational principles:

Deadly force may only be used when there is immediate and otherwise unavoidable danger of death or grave bodily harm to an innocent.

Criteria are:
- Ability to cause such harm
- Opportunity to cause such harm
- Jeopardy of causing such harm
