Close Encounters..of the worst kind
Beginning with the February issue, S.W.A.T. will be starting a new column: Close Encounters…of the worst kind. The column will focus on real-life occurrences experienced by our readers in which a citizen saved his own life, others, or stopped a crime by being lawfully armed. I invite TFL members to participate in this column by sending your stories to me via e-mail.
Of great interest would be what type of weapon and ancillary gear was used, what tactics were necessary and the final outcome. Finally, and most importantly, what lessons were learned from the incident that can be passed on to help save innocent lives in the future. What went right? What went wrong? What would you do the same and what would be your "do-over." No one is in a better position to honestly critique his actions than the person it actually happened to. Stories should be kept to a maximum of 1,000 words, and may be subject to editing. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and helping save lives. Denny

Denny,
I have never been in a situation like that (thank goodness). But you may want to do a search under General. There was a member here who went by the name of Chris something (Can't remember exactly). And his wife was attacked by a would be rapist. She shot him with a 1911. It was a very moving story. She was pretty banged up by the incident, bitten and beaten, but she still prevailed. After the shooting the police took the 1911 and she was gunless, so a bunch of us TFLers pitched in some money and she got her self a Sig 225. Maybe one of the other moderators would remember how to get into contact with them. It was a very educational incident. This was about a year and a half or two years ago. |

Checked the thread - no mention of him getting his 1911 back.
Sometimes that takes a court order, even where the law says they must give it back. An attorney is usually required for this. Some PDs like to think they are fighting crime by 'keeping guns off the streets'. That may be the result of a liberal city council, of course.

As I recall....Chris's wife used his weapon to fend off the attacker. The pitch in was to get her a gun of her own. Which happened.

You want me to send you a cleaned-up version of the "hammers and transvestites on a subway" story? No gun involved, I was armed with a 5.5" folding knife, open carry...I think I have a scan of that thing around somewhere...

Thanks. I'd like to take a look at it. Can you send it to me via e-mail? Denny
