Hey, just for fun try this load in the .223 Remington:
13 grains Blue Dot 40 grain bullet, (V-max, Ballistic tip, etc.) The noise is like a 22 Mag but the velocity will be in the 3,000 FPS range. You can almost leave your ear muffs off. The point of impact will be very near a 50 grain or 55 grain standard load, you don't even need to change scope setting for varmint shooting. It's a pleasant load, accurate and quiet. You can turn your .223 rifle into a Hornet with this ammo. Just never increase that 13 grains of Blue Dot powder charge in the .223. |

The load is for a bolt rifle, it will not cycle an autoloader.

banjobart,
I tried the load and I'm IMPRESSED !!!!! useing my NEF single-shot and BSA scope I wacked a 3/4 inch group at about 125 yards, at 200 the group size swelled up to over 2 inches but I'm still happy with the short range results. real fun load to shoot but it still is loud enough to warrent ear plugs. thanks again

Here is the way I "Squib" load the 223
There are several ways to down-load the 223.
You can load either 4.0 to 5.0 grains of Bullseye. I use 5.6 grains of Unique [1850 feet per second]. You can use your "regular" powder by sending $5.00 to Lee for their SQUIB load program. If you have their MODERN RELOADING by Richard lee, you can find information for it on pages 90 to 93. |
