Hello,
I have a Remington 700VSSF 26" barrel with a 1/12" twist, I am looking for a target reload for this. I am not quite sure how heavy of a bullet I can stabilize accurately with a 1/12" twist. I have not really tried any reloads for this rifle yet, I am still in the "ask questions" stage... I am hoping to keep a group under an inch at 200 yards with this round.... If anyone has any ideas or experiences with this cartridge and maybe even this rifle please give me some ideas... Thanks in advance, Bob |

I wouldn't attempt more than a 64gr leadcore bullet with a 1:12 twist. And the 62gr SS-109 bullet won't work, as it is much longer than a lead-core bullet due to the steel penetrator in the front half of the core.
Try 52 or 53gr Sierras, or the V-Max bullets. -Troy |

I used 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips in a 700V with fantastic success at 200 m w 25 grs W748.

26.7gr Varget, 52gr AMAX, WSR. That does a 3/4" 5 shot group at 200 yards in my 700 Varmint special.. with no wind... To get this king of group you need a quality 20 or 24 power or more scope on your gun. You can't do it with a 3X9. I got 3rd in our little Deer Creek Tactical/Sniper match with this load last month and I'm going to win that match with this load this month. |

I've had really good luck with the Hornady HP match bullets--I think 52 gr, but don't have loading notes here-- and fairly healthy doses of W-748 powder. Again, don't recall specific charge, but it was just under max in the Speer handbook-before-last. Think it was the number Twelve.
Best, Johnny

I will second the 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip. This is one bullet that has a reputation for shooting well in a variety of rifles. I get accurate loads with a variety of powders including Varget, IMR 4064, and IMR 4895.
