I've been looking around at prices, thinking about getting a nice precision bolt action rifle. I know Sako has an excellent rep for making great guns, but they are usually pricey.

But I've been seeing TRG/S models for prices not that much greater than a Remington 700. http://www.gunsamerica.com What gives? Is the TRG/S an economy model? I thought that was what Tikka was for. What are the differences? Anybody own one?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks

Just saw an ad for $569 for a .300 win mag. That seems pretty darn reasonable for a Sako.

Anybody?

(Correia asks as tumble weeds blow past and a coyote howls in the distance.)

The Sako TRG/s is patterned after their competition rifle and has three locking lugs and a short lift bolt. It was designed for the magnum, higher pressure cartridges.
The one I fired was extremely accurate and well made.
Should I ever feel the need for a fourth Sako, I'll most likely buy one. They are a heck of a good buy for the money.

The SAKO TRG-S does not come in "regular" hunting cartridges anymore. Although you can still probably find some of them in the old inventory of some dealers/distributors, the TRG-S is now only imported in .30-378 Wea and .338 Lapua.

It is indeed a good buy, because it is extremely accurate, strong and inexpensive for what it is. Lazzeroni loves it for his large thumpers like the awesome 7.82 Warbird.

So get your 30-06/270/7mm/300Mag now before they're all gone....

I found a used Sako M995 in .300 win. mag which is the same thing as a TRG/S. Very accurate and good quality. Shoots as well as my Sako M75 for a lot less money. Mine came with a Swarovski 3-10x42 mounted in Sako Optilock rings. Art G.

I love my Sako TRG-S in 338 Lapua, I am still working on load development (can't shoot more than about 20 in one sitting) but so far I've been getting 2 inch groups at 300 yards and 3 inches at 500.

0.6 MOA out of the box works for me!
