headspace?

HEY GEORGE.
MY MODEL 70 SUPER GRADE IN .300 H&H MAG. SOMETIMES LOCKS UP AFTER FIRING AND I CAN´T MOVE THE BOLT IN ANY WAY BUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES. CASE SEEMS FINE.

I´VE NOTICED IN OTHER RIFLES THAT THERE´S ALWAYS SOME TRAVEL IN THE BOLT WHEN IN THE LOCK POSITION AND THIS ONE DOESN´T.

IS THERE A WAY TO MEASURE HEADSPACE WITHOUT TAKING THE BARREL APART?

Pepemarine, all you need are the headspace gages. Disassemble the bolt, remove the extractor, and insert the go gage. There should be a very slight "feel" when you close the bolt. The bolt should not close on a no go gage. You may find that the rifle is ok and the load is just a little too hot. George
